About Us
Aces (Alef Complementary Educational Services Ltd.) is a social enterprise built on the belief that it is possible to succeed academically, professionally, and personally while still having the time to enjoy life. We translate this vision into courses that help you learn and acquire skills efficiently, giving you an edge in today's fast-paced world. Over 10,000 people have benefited from our skills training services so far.
Our Courses
Our courses are run online through Zoom, and are taught live by teachers and professors with extensive experience in teaching students from various nationalities and backgrounds. Teaching and coaching are done in parallel to create a dialogue where questions can be asked and addressed, and where concepts can be practiced as they're taught. To further ensure material is well understood, attendees can email us within 7 days of attending a course and we will do our best to clear up any lingering issues regarding the course material.
As part of our commitment to being a social enterprise, we reserve three seats in each class for those facing financial hardship.
Our Journey
Our journey started when a group of teachers began investigating why certain students in their respective classes were not able to rise to the required learning standard, despite extra help and attention. From the long list of possible reasons, both socio-economic and personal, the teachers identified a lack of study skills as the primary issue. This observation was later confirmed through action research, when taking the time to develop study skills in these students saw a marked rise in their learning competency. Alef Complementary Educational Services (Aces) was founded in 2015 in the wake of this research, developing specialized study skills courses that are accessible and beneficial to everyone.
2015 | Aces was founded to help students develop skills crucial to both academics and life outside academia. We began by offering study skills and creative writing courses to students and teachers in Hong Kong. |
2018 | To empower and aid students in underprivileged areas, we partnered with an online platform to provide remote learning services. We also developed courses for teachers on how to teach study skills to others, so the community could continue to benefit without our assistance. |
2020 | We upgraded our courses to cover recommendations by the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation for Development) in teaching and learning 21st century skills. When the Covid-19 pandemic began and in person classes were suspended, thousands of teachers and students benefited from our remote learning modules. |
2023 | Our latest offering, Future Ready Learning is designed to help people of all ages face the uncertainties of the post-Covid 21st century. We expanded our program to include courses for professionals who are looking for new opportunities, as well as parents seeking to teach study skills and personal planning to their children at an early age. |
